Announcement

MiniMax auth (OAuth + API key) is now supported in OpenClaw Setup

You can now run OpenClaw on MiniMax with either Coding Plan OAuth or API key auth, with support for MiniMax-M2.5, MiniMax-M2.1, and MiniMax-M2.5-highspeed.

Why this matters

Teams that prefer MiniMax can now choose the auth mode that fits their workflow: OAuth flow or direct API key. Both are now first-class in managed OpenClaw hosting.

What shipped

  • Providers: MiniMax (API key) and MiniMax Coding Plan (OAuth) in setup wizard and dashboard.
  • Models: MiniMax-M2.5, MiniMax-M2.1, and MiniMax-M2.5-highspeed.
  • Region support: Global and China endpoints.
  • Flows: Paste API key directly, or start OAuth and authorize with MiniMax user code.

Commercial upside

MiniMax positions Coding Plan as a subscription model for coding usage. For many teams, this is attractive when they want predictable plan-based spend instead of only per-token metering. As of February 22, 2026, MiniMax Coding Plan docs list Starter / Plus / Max subscription tiers with prompt-window limits.

MiniMax also offers a trial tier for Coding Plan onboarding, so new users can test MiniMax coding models free of charge before committing to a paid subscription (availability and limits depend on current MiniMax pricing/promo policy).

Important nuance: using MiniMax API auth does not automatically switch you to pure token-only billing. If your API key is tied to Coding Plan subscription in your account, those requests still count toward subscription pricing windows and remain eligible for free-trial plan limits.

Dimension MiniMax auth in OpenClaw Setup Typical token-only API path
Billing style Plan-based Coding Plan options + optional pay-as-you-go path Pure per-token billing
Auth UX OAuth verification flow or direct API key input Manual API key creation, storage, and rotation only
Model options M2.5, M2.1, M2.5-highspeed in OpenClaw provider catalog Depends on each provider integration and config work
Operations Managed OpenClaw hosting and setup workflow Self-managed auth and deployment stack

Where MiniMax M2.5 fits best

  • Code-heavy OpenClaw assistants where long context and tool workflows matter.
  • Workloads that benefit from a higher-speed variant without changing provider.
  • Teams comparing subscription-first pricing with token-first pricing.

How to start

  1. Open OpenClaw Setup.
  2. Create or edit an instance and choose MiniMax (API key) or MiniMax Coding Plan (OAuth).
  3. Paste your API key or complete OAuth authorization, then pick your default MiniMax model.
  4. Launch and connect your channel (Telegram/Slack) as usual.
