Connect MiniMax to OpenClaw
OpenClaw Setup supports both MiniMax API key auth and MiniMax Coding Plan OAuth. This guide shows both paths and how billing behaves when your API key belongs to Coding Plan.
Choose MiniMax in OpenClaw Setup, then either paste an API key or complete OAuth. If your API key is linked to MiniMax Coding Plan, requests still count toward subscription/trial limits (not separate token-only billing).
Before you start
- A MiniMax account on platform.minimax.io (or CN endpoint account).
- OpenClaw Setup account: app.openclaw-setup.me/login.
- Optional: MiniMax Coding Plan on Coding Plan page for subscription/trial-based coding usage.
Option A: connect MiniMax with API key
- Open MiniMax account billing page: Coding Plan.
- Create or copy your MiniMax API key from your account.
- In OpenClaw Setup, choose MiniMax (API auth provider).
- Paste the API key and continue setup.
Option B: connect MiniMax with OAuth
- Open setup wizard (or dashboard model settings) and add MiniMax Coding Plan (OAuth).
- Choose region: Global or China.
- Click Start OAuth.
- Click Open MiniMax authorization page, then enter the shown user code.
- Authorize access in MiniMax account.
- Return to OpenClaw Setup and click Connect.
- Select your default model (`MiniMax-M2.5`, `MiniMax-M2.1`, or `MiniMax-M2.5-highspeed`) and continue setup.
Billing behavior for MiniMax API auth
MiniMax API auth does not automatically mean separate per-token billing. If your API key is issued under Coding Plan subscription, requests still count toward your subscription windows and can remain eligible for free-trial plan limits.
What you get with MiniMax M2.5 in OpenClaw
- Long context: MiniMax docs list a ~204.8k context window for M2.5 series text models.
- Coding-first profile: MiniMax positions M2.5 for programming, tool calling, and complex agent workflows.
- Fast variant: M2.5-highspeed is documented as same-quality M2.5 profile with higher output speed.
Troubleshooting
- "Authorization pending": finish consent in MiniMax page and click Connect again.
- API key rejected: generate a fresh key in MiniMax account and verify you selected MiniMax API auth provider (not OAuth provider).
- Wrong region: restart OAuth and switch Global/CN endpoint to match your account.
- Expired flow: start OAuth again; authorization windows are time-limited.
